|When Jason was just 5 years old, a biking accident led to the discovery of his kidney issues. Testing after the accident revealed that he only had one kidney. Before he was even 10 years old, Jason and his family learned a kidney transplant would likely be in his future. Jason feels very fortunate that proper diet and exercise have extended the life of his kidney, and he has not needed the surgery until now. His only kidney currently functions at just 15 percent, and doctors have said a kidney transplant is critical to his survival. |
Jason and his wife, Melissa, love being outdoors and often go hiking, rock climbing and camping. He is very active in his community and even serves on the board of the local YMCA. Jason is grateful for the steadfast support from his family and friends. Melissa even follows the strict renal diet Jason is on to maintain his health while awaiting his transplant.
Although he has known for many years that a transplant was possible, Jason has remained positive and doesn't take the many blessings in his life for granted. More than anything, he looks forward to a lifetime of happiness with Melissa, and their precious daughter, Amelia. But he needs your help.
A kidney transplant costs approximately $250,000. And that's only the beginning. Even with insurance, Jason faces significant medical expenses related to his transplant. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month--and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
Although Jason owns a printing company, he is very concerned about who will operate the business while he recovers from the surgery.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Jason. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT North Carolina Transplant Fund, 5350 Poplar Avenue, Suite 430, Memphis, TN 38119. Please be sure to write "in honor of Jason Spangler" on the memo line.
