Transplant Type - Liver

We're thrilled to report that Terry received his transplant on October 27, 2013!

In 1997, he was diagnosed with a life-threatening liver disease, but his illness didn’t start significantly affecting his health until mid-2011. Doctors said a liver transplant was essential to his survival.

Despite his health challenges, Terry refused to give up. He endured two treatments to try and rid his body of this disease, but both times had disappointing results. After the first regimen of treatments, he showed no signs of the disease, but it reappeared shortly after treatment ended. The second time, he almost lost his life. Thankfully, he has now received a second chance at life with his new liver.

Terry is grateful for the support of Sheila, his wife of 24 years, and their sons Ryan and Nick. He looks forward to overcoming this obstacle so he can once again provide for his family and spend more quality time with his loved ones. Before he became ill, he loved hunting, fishing and playing golf, but his illness has prevented him from enjoying these activities. Thankfully, he is still able to enjoy watching sports with his sons. More than anything, he wants to spend many more years with Sheila, watching their sons start families of their own. But the Kimbrells need your help.

The average liver transplant costs approximately $575,000. And that’s only the beginning. Even with health coverage, he still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications, which are as critical to his survival as the transplant.

When he received his transplant, Terry and Sheila temporarily relocated nearly 350 miles from their home to be near the transplant center during recovery, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food and lodging.
