Transplant Type - Kidney

We're thrilled to report that Laura received her transplant on May 20, 2016!

In 2008, Laura was diagnosed with Goodpasture’s syndrome, an autoimmune disorder that damaged her kidneys. At that time her kidneys were functioning at just 20 percent, and they had completely failed by 2011. Doctors said a kidney transplant was necessary. She must continue fundraising so she can afford the post-transplant medications and care. While awaiting her transplant, she endured regular dialysis treatments, which take a toll on her quality of life.

Although this has been a challenging time, Laura has remained positive thanks to the love and support of her parents, husband, son, stepdaughter, son-in-law and three grandchildren. It breaks her heart that she had to miss out family activities because of her declining health.

Before receiving her diagnosis, Laura led an active life. She provided her family through a demanding, yet rewarding, job she loved; she took pride in managing their home; and she enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends. She was also extremely involved in both her son’s school and her church and several of its ministries. These days, her activities have been very limited, which has been quite an adjustment. She looks forward to one day going back to work and rededicating herself to her church, family and friends. She would also love to give back by helping other patients battling kidney disease. But right now, she needs your help.

The average kidney transplant costs approximately $250,000. And that’s only the beginning. While her insurance will cover some of the costs, she still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications, which are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Laura.
